So, for all of us that don’t know, tell us how you got your name!

Funny little story. I was at this house party and I was Djing about 3-4 years ago and my friend Katy was introducing me to her friend Gabby. At that point in time I was going by DJ Donald Drunk. Anyways the girl kept being “what’s your name” and I replied “Sean McCarthy” and she kept going “What? Sean The Car Thief” and I was like “Oh shit that sounds bad ass!” And it’s been that ever since. And if you want to know if I robbed cars all I have no comment.

You are one of the founding members of the Wolf Pack, can you elaborate on what the Wolf Pack is, how it came about, and what your plans are?

The Wolf Pack is a group of totally gnarly dudes lol. No but for real it’s a artist collective of some of the most intelligent and talented people in the midwest. It came about last summer. I had been wanting to start up a crew of some sort. Everyone else had one why not my friends and myself. I was all shit can drunk at Ryan Padgett’s house and pitched the idea to Chris, Ryan and Ricky. Everyone was down and it was born. We talked with some of the fathers of the Chicago scene told them what we wanted to do and made sure we had their blessings and didn’t step on any toes. It’s been just a whirl wind of activity and non stop madness ever since. Our plans? Hmm…. World Domination would be nice but I guess we’ll settle for building our brand and continuing to throw enjoyable events around Chicago and midwest getting as many people to dance and have the nights of their life as possible.

I’ve been playing around off and on since about last November and around late January I started to get serious with it. Youtubing tutorials and bugging the shit out of my friends that already made great music. The transition has fun and some what difficult. I went from only worrying about what key the next song was in and was it 8 or 16 bars till the next drop to the most insane math problems inside production. The whole sound design thing is really fun too. It’s a progression I think most people should try and make. But I wish more people would learn to DJ before they start producing. You’d appreciate the music a whole lot more.

What hardware/software are you using to produce your tracks?

Right now I’m in Ableton. I use the standard issue stuff, Massive, Albino, Camelphat and I’ve been getting some awesome sounds with Operator lately.

You have the reputation around these here parts as a party boy, tell us about one of your favorite/craziest nights!

Hahaha ya I like to have fun. Man favorite/ craziest night? Some of them I properly shouldn’t tell. The people involved might be upset lol. Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll stuff. To pick one I’d go with last Halloween. I got to open for Chromeo and A-Trak and as soon as the was done I headed over to our show after Bassnectar. We had Antserum and Nameloc on the bill and then me and Chris closed the night out. Brandon Busby of Futhersound drank damn near 3 bottle of sweet tea vodka and went nuts. For the show Nameloc and Antiserum smashed it of course and left the crowd so hype. We had to destroy it and we did. We Bro’d out so hard! The place was going ape shit. The first crowd surfng at a dubstep show took place lol. It was like a crowning moment, like this is what I want to do. I’m not stopping, Wolf Pack is here, we don’t fuck around and we’ll melt your face. Aside from that pretty much everything else is a bit too risque to talk about. I’ll let people imaginations run wild on what things have happened. But every new weekend is even better than the last. I basically love my life and this whole musical journey that has just begun.

So, you are The Car Thief, you run Wolf Pack, and also have a project with our good friend Chris Hemstreet called Bandiit. What’s that all about?

Yes, yes, and yes lol. That is our little side project. Me and Chris where playing verus sets for a while and where just like lets start a side project. Our musical taste are very similar while being completey different so we gel very well together when we play. Hell half the time we don’t even practice before a show. We just go smash it. The name Bandiit is what we went with. It’s agressive sounding and works well with typography. The point of the two Is about two individuals coming together to form one entity and that entity is Bandiit.

What’s your favorite place you’ve played so far and why?

My favorite place ever will always be the Day Old Basement in Macomb, IL. It’s where I played my first Dubstep show at and where it all started. Otherwise Canopy Club in Champaign was awesome! I’d had been to so many shows there and now Bandiit was the feature act. They had this massive LED screen that was behind us. It was like 30 feet I swear. The crowd was super hype too. We dropped our Biz Markie remix/ mash up and had 700 kids singing along. It was amazing.

What is your take on the Chicago dubstep scene and where do you see it going?

It’s cluttered like every other city right now. But with that said it’s in good shape. Lots of very talented people. I see it moving upwards at the same time I see it kind of fading away. I think over the next few months lots of people will fall of and the cream will rise to the top as it does in any scene.

What’s the best piece of production advice you’ve been given?

Have fun. Thats what it’s all about.

What can we expect from The Car Thief this summer?

North Coast!!!!! Lots of madness is in store lol. Hopefully I can get some really fun tunes done and out in circulation. I’m sure I’ll put out a ton of mixes over multiple genres. There will be lots of drinking, napping on peoples couches, sleeping in randoms broads beds, yelling and screaming at shows, tons of food will be photographed and put inside my belly, all in all debauchery. Lots of good times in other words.

Lastly, you have the floor, anything you want to hype up, bitch about, or set straight?

If you’re in this musical world of ours enjoy it. It’s nothing to be bitching about and starting drama with other people. We all love the same thing, music and making people move. People need to think of each other more as co-workers rather than rivals. Thats how we can make a bigger and better experience for everyone. Guess I’ll give some shout outs or something. Hulk for being so fucking cool and giving me tunes ( you assholes know I’m the biggest fan boy still lol).
