Magic Mash Interview

Magic Mash Interview

Another tag-team breed of talent coming out of the UK… (I don’t wanna hear it Squitty!) These guys have been crankin’ out some bangin’ tunes over the last couple months and they were kind enough to give us a nice little preview of what’s to come, not without a twist of humorous sarcasm, of course. These guys have just as much character as their music does, and just a heads up, “Jokes” is one of my favorite tracks right now… So sit back with your brew, your bud, or both and get to know Jack and George from Magic Mash…

Magic Mash- Jokes by DUBliminalCOM

>>Names/Age/Location
Jack & George 22 Guildford UK

>>Where did you guys first hear dubstep, what track was it, and what was your reaction?

We’re both DnB heads and heard it first at DnB nights down in the West country. Didn’t really get it ’til we heard it on a decent system. Got hooked on the sub.

>>How long have you been making Dubstep and what did you produce before
dubstep came along (if anything)?

Together for about a year now, done bits of everything before doing music tech at school etc. Write a bit of DnB, too.

>>How did the name Magic Mash come about?

From that kid’s book where the mashed potato genie grants wishes to that boy and his granddad. Page turner

>>What is your current setup (gear/software)?

Logic, macs and some shiny new speakers. We would like to make Rob Papen airtight…

>>Please describe the process you go through when you make a track together.

We both kind of start tunes separately, get bored then swap em switch it all up and eventually sit down together and finish them off.

>>What do you think makes dubstep stand out from all the other genres?

Half speed allows space for serious bassweight + room to get some complicated beats and rhythms in.

Magic Mash – Give Me Some More by DUBliminalCOM

>>How would you describe your sound?

Tech and heavy, especially our newer stuff. Our mate Mystery who runs the deep end night down in Exeter calls it ‘Ravey as you like’… We also got some chillers too ps.

>>What has been your best experience so far as Magic Mash?

This interview, right now, is the single greatest moment of our lives.

>>Where do you see dubstep going in 2010?

Even bigger and better, especially when our new dubstep show on Kane FM kicks off! (plugtastic)

>>Who are your favorite dubstep producers at the moment?

Eskmo, Reso, 16Bit, Kryptic Minds, Ruckspin, Hulk, Rebel Sonix, and loads more.

>>Where do you draw your influences from?

2:27 – 2:40 in the noisia and foreign beggars tune ‘Contact’.

>>Plans for the future, IE releases, mixes, projects?

We got jokes out now =D

>>#1 goal you’d like to accomplish this year?

Having a 20 page thread on DSF about how we are ruining dubstep.

>>What venue (country) would you most like to play?

Fabric / Matter in London. Glade festival.

>>Advice for up and coming dubstep producers?

Soundcloud and AIM is the way forwards. Work on your tunes and get as much advice as possible. It’s too easy nowadays to flood the internet with your first shit tune. We know cos we did it =).

>>Anything you’d like to add?

Big up to Dubliminal!

Thanks for taking a time out guys, be on the look our for more BIG tunes from these young lads!
